This is the beginning of a birthday present for a friend. I want to make a typical suburbian street, with the typical grumpy older man. This represents my first hour of progress, with the basic concept done, and some placeholder textures.

Tho you may want to extend the street just a bit more( IMO) to make room for camera movements…

Ok, I expanded the street a bit more. This’ll be a static scene, so I’ll be focusing on the viewable area. I’d love to create complete models, but my friend’s birthday is in 2 weeks, so I must cut some corners.
The image in the background is a random suburban sketch I found online, which resembles my original idea. I messed up the lightning because I forgot that sun lamps don’t work for global illumination. I’m also having trouble creating realistic surfaces with procedural textures.

It’s looking really good. I think there is quite a big space next to the house, but that will be fixed once you model the trees in the picture.
Well, that was a long nap!
I’m having trouble with the tree leaves and the bushes. I’ll also get on to doing a decent sky later.
Started texturing. Still having trouble with the leaves, but everything else is going smoothly. I removed the parasol because I didn’t like it. Will probably go straight onto the characters, and “leave” the leaves for last.
Also, I rendered the scene with “Both” and “Add” on the AO options. Which lightning looks more attractive?
