Getting ready for new animation challenge

Ok I’m getting ready to launch the new Animation Challenge. I’m a week late I know but believe me I have a lot going on currently.
Before I will launch it I have one more question for you and I’d ask you to vote on the provided poll.

The way this new animation challenge is going to be run is by providing a simple base file and a task to do.
Thanks to MikeCuffe I allready have a very simple base file ready but for the time being it includes Ludwig. Now he is pretty old and there are a lot more rigs available.
So it basically boils down to should we provide the rig to use and if so which one should we choose. SO please answer the poll and add your comments to this thread.

For the impatient ones: I will start the Animation challenge on Friday evening GMT +1. Can’t say a concrete time since this will depend on when I get out of work and when I’m done bringing my daughter to bed :slight_smile:

well, let’s hope this gets some entries. it didn’t look all that promising in the other thread…

I would choose Mancandy for the rig :wink:

Yeah that was the first rig that came to my mind but only because it is the only rig of the freely available once I actually used some time.
Could you elaborate rogper why you think mancandy would be the best choice?

Definitely make it optional - for the lazy among us it would be good to include a rig with the scene!

I agree mancandy is probably best, it’s probably the most popular rig I think, so people are more likely to be used to using it… or are at least familiar with the character :stuck_out_tongue:

@musk: Don’t forget to send an announcement to BlenderNation once the details are finalised - hopefully we’ll get a few more people interested that way.

I think Mancandy is the best choice because is the most flexible one.

It allows almost all kinds of animation, from real looking to a more cartoony feel, thanks to the very good stretch and deformation features;

It’s very easy to use, has clean and well positioned manipulators that don’t stand in the way and are animator friendly;

It simply works… by this I mean that is more then tested, so the animator can forget the technical stuf and focus only in the animation :wink:

And if this is a animation challange then is better everyone uses the same rig, else this would become a rigging/animation chalange :stuck_out_tongue:

I would rather use a rig I built myself that I am familiar with. I think links to rigged characters should be provided, but not limited to this rig or that. Its really about the animation no?

I think the choice of rig should be up to us.
For instance, one month I like Mancandy, another I like Ludwig and then maybe one month, out of the blue, I decide I want to use JoOngle’s CuteBear. I think it should be up to us on which one to use, and therefore, be left out of the base file.
