GI attempt in Blender

Hello, everyone! I just followed a tutorial on creating something that somewhat resembled GI (Global Illumination, for those who don’t know), and I created this render. I’d appreciate any critiques or suggestions on how to make it look more realistic. I understand there’s not much in the scene (and that a metal monkey head on a glossy wood floor isn’t exactly a common sight), but I’d still like to try to make it as realistic as possible before attempting to create a larger interior scene to apply the effect to.

So ultimately, my questions to you are:

1.) Does this look realistic?

2.) If not, why?

C&C are greatly appreciated, and here’s the render.

First things I notice when it comes to talking total-photorealism is some splotches on the wall, apparent lack of color bleeding from the floor, and no subtle caustic effects from the monkey’s head.

People would like to say BI can compete with Luxrender and the likes, you might be able to emulate the diffuse bouncing in simple scenes, but in complex lighting configurations and caustic patterns the best you can do is use fake GI techniques that doesn’t fully resemble physically accurate lighting.

Unless you have a python script that can place tens of thousands of bounce and caustic lights, Blender Internal simply cannot fully match the realism in Luxrender and Yafaray.
