Gimp install on Linux

How do you get Gimp working on Linux? I’ve downloaded a few versions, but I can’t get it to work. I also tried using apt-get install gimp in the terminal, but it gives me an error. Any help?

Use your package manager. For example if you’re using Ubuntu then Synaptic.

What distro are you using? What error are you getting?

I’m using the newest kubuntu. I get
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13 Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
I’m trying to download it with the software manager now, I’ll see if that works.

Yay, that worked, thanks.

You must be “root” to use “apt-get install” command!

Just to clarify, although I don’'t think OTO is suggesting it, no need to log in as root to run an install with root privileges.

So it would be sudo apt-get install whatever if one chooses to use the CLI, input password and continue.

Thank you yellow, I’m a lazy person!
