hello out there
What do you mean about Gimp and paintshop pro
witch one is better?
The GIMP, simply because Paintshop Pro is crap.
The GIMP, simply because Paintshop Pro is too expensive.
The GIMP is PIMP.
Paintshop Pro, simply because GIMP is shit
Gimp, simply because i love it.
If one learns the GTK and GIMP relationship and has a little math there is no limit to what can be done.
I don’t see how you can say the gimp is crap. It can do anything painshop pro can do. And don’t give the “The interface is crap” argument, this is a blender forum XD
And for the price for what you get ration? The gimp all the way
I think it’s even less likely that a world full of different people would all think the same way about every piece of software that exists.
I say GIMP , because I only used the old Paintshops, and compared to waht the GIMP has become I’ll say it because it’s good and free.
Free is good.
lol
Edit: Sometimes free is neccessary.
well, aside from the fact that the interface is crap, i’ve dealt with GIMP’s crashing, subpar filters, and barely passable anti-aliasing effects for 1.5 years. free isn’t a licence to suck.
I say screw em both and download Adobe Photoshop CS3. PSP is the worst of the three though. Gimp is definately much better because of fast development (compared to commercial products), community support, and the fact that it has developed to a point where it can compete with commercial products. I dont see why Lua considers the filters sub-par. They work just as well as the filters on PSP and they’re more flexible.

lol! you crack me up.
you’re right about photoshop though. it’s the best option.
yup, CS3 any day…
Ive got friends that own it, but as for now, Im stuck wiht photoshop pro 7
I tried Gimp once, it wouldnt install, and messed up my computer(it was a windows build, thought I had all the right stuff). But, thats how it goes…
So Id have to go photoshop(it should include CS3 as well), plus Ive never used The Gimp
You should check out the Micro Mart magazine it had a review of all the Photo Editing packages & The Gimp was one of them, getting 8/10, it was congratulated for excellent Filters and an excellent interface that is extremely versatile and non-restrictive.
Photoshop here. Unless there’s a new version of The Gimp I don’t know about. Having to run scripts for filters and wait to see the effect was ridiculous. Never used Paint Shop.
This one is better: http://gprime.net/video.php/mspaintcar
subpar filters
I thought gimp could run photoshop filters, and has many filters which are just clones, so I cant really see any truth in that. Anyway, there’s only a few filters people should be using, i.e. blur etc… To list a lack of filter as a downside is funny? filter whores?
Anyway, as a photoshop alternative i’d pick http://www.kanzelsberger.com/pixel/?page_id=5 …runs on 7 OSs…
And lets not forget cinepaint… cinepaint.org.
filter whores? nah, its just fun to have lots of cool filters to play with. You can acheive crazy effects much easier.
Agreed… GIMP is only winning the pole because there’s a lot of open source enthusiests. I’ve been using PSP since I was in fifth grade… Yes, a fifth grader could use Paint Shop Pro. Even the outdated versions are better than GIMP. I would rather spend 130 dollars on PSP than nothing on a sh*tty program like GIMP.
heh, i never said there was a lack of filters, only that the filters in gimp suck. there’s a program i’ve used a couple of times that does indeed convert PS filters to GIMP, but most of the time it doesn’t work, and anyways, isn’t that illegal?
thanks for the link to the PS alternative. it looks really cool.
