there’s some photoshop tutorials on texturing faces but I can’t find any that shows how it’s done using gimp…I know some of you might say just follow the photoshop tutorial but I am a noob on using gimp and I don’t know what’s what…

It sounds what you really need are tutorials on using Gimp itself. You should learn your tool before trying to use it.
