Looks kind of bland. Needs more decorations.
Now I’m curious. Does that mean that you’re finally starting an animation?
Xeroshadow: sorry, I’ve not been clear, I haven’t started yet. This is just a title image to the project.
Minoribus: one day maybe. But not yet. This will be a series of duo renders…
Hmmm… I’m not sure what you mean by duo renders, but it is sure to be interesting.
Here is the poster for Gingerbread Gump.
I have also included a screenshot of the blend file including the briefcase material and a closeup of the briefcase. The material is relatively simple as it will not be close to the camera in either pic.
I will start on the screen shot next.
Here is the blocking for the Screenshot of Gingerbread Gump. I’m going for a similar style to my Matchstick girl render but with less extreme lighting.
The poster looks good and styling the scene as you did with matchstick girl sounds promising.
Step 1: Dynamic sculpt of the ground. I kept flicking from orthographic to camera view to get something i liked I wanted to the ground to start framing the picture.
Step 2: Retopo of the ground. first time i’ve ever done a retopo. It wasn’t too bad. but then it is a simple object.
Step 3: Position the blocking objects. I think i’ll have the tree branch helping frame the top of the picture.
I also added a base material for the ground. I’m unsure how to proceed with texturing at the moment… I want lots of detail but i don’t want it to look like i’m going for photo realism. I’m hoping the lattice deformed meshes will help me here.
Also started to think about lighting. using a mesh to block light to give it a dappled effect. (What is the name for one of these? I knew once but have forgotten…)
Making progress on the screenshot image for Forrest Gump.
Still lots to do: put in the feather, the boat and captain Dan.
Plus tweak the grass yet again (it is proving to be a pain, that grass)
Cool stuff as always, Monk. The lattice deformations are truly adding to the scene, but imho they should be more balanced. The undeformed trees are in high contrast to the deformed bench and the house. The trees should be deformed also and at least the bench is deformed too much, I think.
The grass in the middle of the way should be more dry, because it won’t get that much water over there. Otherwise the grass is really good in my eyes.
With your lighting you’ve created a fascinating atmosphere of a bright summer day here. I can almost hear the sound of the crickets. Very nice!
Looking great… I got a chuckle on the tshirt. Is the gingerbread on the Balcony Jenny or his mother? Perhaps those clouds should be higher up in the sky background.
Cheers guys. hopefully these changes will have address some of the issues.
Harley: It could be Jenny or Mom in the house. I now have Lt Dan on the boat as well.
I’m going to tweak the windows and doors on the house but then i think this is done. I’ll do a high sample render over night.
Then onto film number 2…
Hahaha…Love this!
It has turned out very lovely. I like the centred composition with Gingerbread running in a direction out of the scenery which opens the scene a bit. At the same time it is very clear what you want the viewer to look at. But you paid a good attention to the details. That allows to wander through the image and to detect other interesting spots like the boat and the captain.
And as I already said the lighting and the mid summer atmosphere is fantastic. Also the materials and the textures are well chosen (when I look at the little posts and their weathered grey wood, only or example). They all fit very well to the dry and warm atmosphere and do a great contribution to the image.
One thing that could be enhanced in upcoming scenes are Gingerbread’s eyes. It’s very clear that you can’t use lifelike eyes or even Pixar style ones. But like they are now they don’t look alive, which is a little drawback for your fascinating image, because all in all he looks brave and unburdened. It could be the roughness. But it could be also the lack of a pupil and an iris. Perhaps you can create some more detailed and partly glossy eyes of sugar coating.
But that’s really a minor detail. Very fine work, Monk.
Cheers guys
Minoribus: i’ll have a look at the eyes. You have a point.
Here is an empty cell. Now to start filling it.
 … brilliant stuff inside this thread … how about the Green Mile ?!
… great works all aound, keep it up Monk
