Girl with special skirt music video project

Hi!

So recently I’ve been brainstorming and drawing thumbnails and suddenly I had this idea of a girl with a rotating skirt that allows her - if not to fly - to jump high and far at least

Now I intend to develop this into a music video, likely with a jump and run feel, as I had to think of old game characters. I will create music specifically for this, too (check my recent music on archive.org)

First some sketching to develop the character, next will be storyboarding and modeling.

Some rough sketches for a start:

Some notes:
I want her to be cute but a bit edgy. She goes her own way and doesn’t allow anything to stop her. She would listen to rave, punk and ska

i say 5…

3

this post is 10 characters long

5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5

Number 5.

i like 8 & 12 the best. I don’t like 11 at all, to draganballz for me.

For a girls prospective, I definetely choose character 3, 5 and 10. But I like character no. 10 very much

I choose you, no. 6!

Thanks everyone!

Allowing several votes from one post, this means 3 for 5, 2 for 3 and 1 for 6, 8, 12, 10. I think 3 is a bit plain and not feminine enough. 5 looks rather ‘normal’, but the preference here is clear
I kinda have a soft spot for 6 and 10 and the variation from the inital sketches. Those would also work OK as stiff mass, whereas 5 would need to be animated a little. Could that be done with softbody mechanics, perhaps?

I listened to your music - what do you use that allows you to program in such odd time singnitures? (I’m thinking of the Five Three mostly here.)

I like your overall cartoons style, and it suits your musical style - but what’s her enviroment going to be like?

MusE. But any halfway serious midi sequencer will do. In case of Five-Three the time signature is on 5/4, so I had to keep track of the 3/4 timing by pattern length.

Heh, thanks. That’s actually the first time anyone puts it into any relation
The style of these sketches has a lot to do with speed, though. I might even switch to round eyes.

For the environment … one thing at a time
It will likely resemble jump’n’run levels and be rather minimalistic, though.

Five Three sounds to me like it 5 triplets - Five sets of three - or 15/8 time. I have a tune in 15/8 time, faster than yours, but I can’t program it on anything!

For all our voting it’s really your desision alone which hair to use. I like 13 & 14, and you won’t have to worry about the hair bouncing with eather of these.

I like the tri-points. I think that they are original and easy to identify (two things a main character might need to survive… :))

I like your work!

Good point, zog34, thanks

Hmm, a bit twisted but gets the job done. I think this one looks a lot more-girl-next-door. Could be interesting, but not exactly what I had in mind.

The straight ends of the skirt segments are less loud - might help to keep the complete design from being overly busy.

Lets try to shed some light on what it shall be about:
A girl on a solo mission, having to get past some opponents to reach the final destination (I think I will keep the last bit secret). There will be some jumping and just perhaps some kicking, but she will mainly rely on cleverness. Note the backpack as depot for objects. It might even be a portal to hammer space

Wondering if it shall be round or manga eyes and planning head modeling. Don’t know whether the structuring will be of any help for modeling, but it helped me a bit to think 3d

Trying to get a ‘feel’ for the skirt - and an idea regarding the backpack

Next I will work on a character sheet, focusing on proportions first, so I can finally model her.
