This is my first attempt to model anything in Blender that’s more complicated than a couple of spheres and cubes, so please don’t be too hard on me… I’ve been working on and off at this for about a week or so, but there’s still plenty more to do; for example I’ve not made any hands yet (too scary for the moment :-?), also I’ve spent pratically zero time doing the feet and ears so I know they look rubbish. I’d certainly be interested in knowing what else could do with improving though.
I just whacked down a couple of lights and hoped for the best since I’ve not got into learning how to do this yet. Also I haven’t spent much time looking at materials and textures so any tips on these would also be appreciated.
Anyway here’s a link to a page with a few renders from various angles.
Now I guess I just have to wait to see what everyone’s thinking.
I’m really nervous now… :-?
For being your first model, besides basic stuff, that is pretty darn good. Organic modeling is tuff, and for your first model, that is super. Give yourself a pat on the back and keep trucking, NICE JOB!!!
Woah, you jumped into a huge project right from the get go.
Nice start. From looking at it, it seems like the legs are too long, nipples look a lil big IMO, and from face_front.jpg, the tip of the nose doesn’t look right. might just be camera angle though.
Don’t be nervous though posting. All the community is gonna do is tell you what needs some work. They want to see a nice model and they are gonna tell you what doesn’t look right.
Thanks for the generally positive comments everyone.
I think the main problem with the nose is that I modelled half and then did a copy, mirror, join, remove duplicate vertices type procudure, and maybe I need to check some of the points near the join. That said, a bit of remodelling here and there probably wouldn’t do any harm either. It’s so hard to get everything looking okay from every angle… need more practice.
The legs definitely used to be too short, and I decided they needed extending, but you’re right, I think I went a bit too far. Sometimes you spend so long looking at something you just can’t see what’s wrong with it yourself, but then, I guess that’s the advantage of posting here!
I’d absolutely love to create some hair, but at the moment I haven’t got the faintest idea where to start. Is it best to model in one piece and maybe texture it somehow - or is it possible to model individual strands and then perform lots of duplication? I guess the second method would result in a stupidly large number or pologons though…
Anyway, I’ll try and improve things somewhat and if I make any progress I’ll post an update although this may not be for a while since I’m a bit short of time at the moment.
