Glass composite

Hi, all! I am compositing a scene where there are shards of glass in the air. A piece of glass will be close to the camera, to display the IOR (refraction) to make it look more believable. I was wondering how I could make a piece of glass distort the video, but still have the world as alpha when I do an alpha over of the glass and video in the compositor.

As in, I want the glass to render with distortion of the video within the piece of glass, but not have the video as the world setting.

I think you’d have to map the video onto a plane and stick it in the scene. Is that what you’re asking?

Kind of. I want to do this:

in blender instead of 3Ds

Yea, I’d make a plane at the same aspect ratio as your footage (16:9, e.g.) and then use a movie texture on the plane. Set the material to shadeless and you’ll get the plain video. Position it so it fills exactly (or nearly exactly) the edges of your camera frame. Parent the plane to your camera if you’re going to move the camera around at all (which you may need to do, especially to match up the perspective of your shot, etc).
