Glass Longsword

This is insanely ugly, but I’ll post anyways…

C n’ C is reccomended.

Well, it’s not ugly, in fact it looks really good, but the blade doesn’t look much like glass. I’d make it more transparent.

Excellent. I do think however the lighting takes away from the overall composition.

If I had modeled the sword I’d make the ornaments, gems or rubies, and make the blade steel. You can use Blender’s procedural textures and env maps to a your advantage than trying to fake refractive/reflective glass.

But with that said I really like this image. Nice DOF. VERY artistic. Great job.

Here are an old set of steps I used in Blender 2.23 to make ‘glass’:

  1. Model your desired object(s) and scene. Set up your lighting.
  2. Apply a new Material. Do not set up any vaules at this point.
  3. Apply a new Texture. Select Blend, then Halo.
  4. Return to your Material.
  5. Set the Alpha slider to 0.000 ( I set it between 0.000 and 0.200 if using an env map so it will show up on the ‘glass’)
  6. Set Spec, Hard, and Sp Tr to the maximum value.
  7. Add, Ref, Emit and Amb are all set to 0.
  8. Set Ztransp to on, its just to the right of the Ref slider.
  9. Set the Nor to on to use it as your texture cordinates set up in step 3.
  10. DISABLE X and Y scaling (this is key).
  11. Set only Alpha to on so your texture affects the objects alpha value.

That may or may not work for you. It worked for my particular scene and lighting set up. Give it a try.

Yuck! :x No, just kidding. It looks good, I just don’t like those blades sticking out on the sides.

i think the DOF is WAY toooo much, other than that, its kool!

nice one
i like the athmosphere of it …

Thanks for comments, appriciated greatly.

ec2: thanks a bunch

The blur is because I had a aliasing issue in the handle, I’ll see what I can do about it.

The blade will remain glass, because in the game of morrowind that’s the way it is. The glass is actually a rare crystal that has to be mined, makes for extremely lite, but durable armor, weaponry etc.

I’m working on some shanges now!

looks great dittohead- and I like the blur.

I saw the picture and I went like wow …but then I felt sad when I read the word ugly … you call this ugly … phew …
anyway … I like the model …

ugly? it looks awesome well not really awesome more like great and on top of it the use of DOF and texture just make it more cooler…so yeah it s awesome  .
