Glassy Shader (read: Crappy glass shader :-))

Well, i loaded the code from the 3d-labs demo and tried to swap the
coordinates of some code lines according to GE Standard. I think i just
missed a “little” thingy. Hmm, It works, nice effect, but not really glass.
I wonder if i screwed up the coordtransform or if it’s something with
the texture setup… I hope that it ,at least, inspires somebody. Or maybe
somebody likes it already. It lightens the faces of a diamond in a correct
looking order. The stone glitters nicely when turned. Have Fun! (I hope)

A short movie (xvid < 3 MB). Get OS codec from xvid.org if needed.
The original AVI file was 30 MB, so this is a darn nice lill OS codec:D

I tried it, looks really great. Only problem is that it slows down the performance a lot…
But nice thing to use in small amounts!

It looks interesting, but I couldn’t download it (the d/l clocked at 4.5 kps- a single .blend shouldn’t take 20 minutes to download)

When you delete any object with a shader applied, you also have to delete it from the shader scripts object list. Else the shader will not run, thus the high framerate.

The reverse is the way to apply a shader to a model. Just assign a material with the textures setup for your shader (look @ my blend) and add the “OB name” to the list. Make sure the respective shader script gets called at least on one object in the scene (see logicbricks of object).

I developped it on a 7600GT. There its ok. Its prolly a lot slower on a 5600 or so.

Not at all, just name your preferred free filehoster with no registration. I’ll try this one first then.

Schei…benkleister ( lill help for the curious:http://www.dict.cc/deutsch-englisch/Scheibenkleister.html ), I really want it to run on your notebook. Maybe its just a bit heavy on your HW ? Try this: Delete the 3D text object and Suzanne:( Don’t forget to remove the objects from the list (of the shaderscript)!

Now I have seen it. Nice effect, reminds me at a very early realtime-blend I made years ago (diamond-ring in case, maybe you remember?). I am not sure why it crashes, I can have many diamonds without a framerate drop. However the original file
crashes.

it slows downs a lot because of the “BLENDER3D” text that contain way to much vertices (exactly 13 256 vertices) delete that and it works without any loss of frame rate :P(by the way I changed the script a little so you dont always have to put the name of the object you want shaded, just put the script in the logic brick of the object you want shaded)

If you use different scripts for different models that is certainly a good idea. However if you apply the same shader to different objects this way, i’m afraid it loads it as many times as it has been applied into the graphics memory. If you use the list you can be sure that it gets loaded only once.
