Glider animation - My first project with blender

I haven’t been able to get much feedback from my friends, so I decided to be brave enough to post my animation here. Though I could have made it much better, the project is finished. It took me pretty long time to do, since most of the stuff there is I was doing for the first time. Everything else but the terrain texture and water texture are made from scratch.

I probably try to texture the glider again someday, it turned out pretty nice I think.

The video is 28MB and is 1:30 long, 720x480 and encoded with xvid.

All the opinions and criticism are more than welcome.

I like it, I really do. Two things:
1, It need OSA badly, especcialy in the beggining. (the osa button in the render window, stands for oversampling, but really, it’s anti-aliasing  )
2, why glider? it flies, it doesn’t glide, and noone is gliding on it.

I’m impress on the animation: very fluid.
is it a path or key?
the particle effect is well done too, maybe i could but a bit of random so the cloud is enlarging at the end… you know, smoke in the air…
anyway. it’s a bit long but it show what it must show.
keep on blending!
Ho and welcome to elysiun!

Thanks for the comments!

It is anti-aliased, the cornered look comes from the video codec. In the full-res version the picture is very smooth. I don’t know why the low-res looks so bad, spent couple of hours fighting with it and couldn’t make it any better.

“Glider”, bad english, misinterpretation of the term, something like that. :expressionless: It sounded good for a finn.

The “flyer” ( ) flies along a path and the camera is also path-animated in couple of takes.

I was just joking with that glider thing

Wow! for a first project that’s phonomenal. too bad about that codec, though. Some of the camera moves in the begining are a bit ‘funny’, I think because no real camera could pull of those moves. texture of the terain is very uniform, but I think you spent the ‘right’ amount of time on it.
Welcome to blender!

Yes wow for first profect. I like it alot seems you are getting the hang of animation and camera position. I got some pink streams in the vid when i watched it is that normal?

It doesn’t show any pink streams on my computer, but when I was trying different settings with the codec it did that a lot. Maybe I should try to encode it again.

OK I actually managed to encode it again… it’s now smaller and 5 times better looking.

I updated the link in the first post.

nope the file is still huge 27MB… but very very good!
…at time 1:07 (roughly) there are gray things in the water. are they waves? fish? they didn’t last long enough for me to tell for sure…
the tunnel scene reminds me of playing Descent
very nice.
but if it’s a glider, why is there smoke?? (just kidding!)

The gray things are supposed to be rocks, since there is a shallow part in the river there. Rapids of some sort. At least trying to be.

There are many parts in the scene that don’t satisfy me at all. But it’s my first, and there was simply not enough time or energy to do everything properly. The next one is going to be a whole lot better. 8)

srry, too big for mine internet connection, can’t sit round for an hour and a half wating for it to download.
