Going Down

Happy to hear any feedback, though unlikely to make any changes at this point (see render time below!). I am aware it has a scale/readability problem - designed to be viewed at a much larger size than a typical computer monitor, and I am thinking about having it printed and framed at some point.

To give a few technical details, it is 8K pixels across, and took just under 17 days to render (6 real cores over clocked to 4.3Ghz; actual day count was more like a month because I had to switch off my computer overnight). 512 samples per pixel when most of your image is volumetrics, using a fully procedural cloud node tree (hence complicated and slow to compute) is rather insane. Probably should have optimised more, but I already had enough fun getting it small enough to fit within the 16 gigabytes of ram my desktop has, and its hard to care too much about what your computer is up to when you’re at work, at least until the electricity bill arrives.

Started as an experiment (the procedural clouds) back in 2015, but a very on-and-off again project, hence it only being completed now. It is quite political, if you can work out what is all means (I suspect that might only be me!), but going to ignore that as this is an art forum.
