Kendall College of art and design of ferries state university michigan
full time tenure track assistant professor in industrial design.
finally the waiting is over!
Just got my classes I could teach and 3D modeling and rendering are overlapping each other. Damn …
Because I will focus on these two classes, Blender will be a finale integrale part of it.
With T-splines for rhino it is a welcome addition and makes it very useful ALSO for
industrial design.
And rendering, well we all know Yafray and other engines are great and free !!!
i will finish teaching rhino-nurbs, blender-subdiv mesh modeling, and rendering in yafray for the industrial design students.
yafaray seems to get very good. i love some of the new features.
but i might cover mainly rendering in blender because they also cover good sss now.
however i miss good GI in blender.
and a summer class for modeling is not enough to teach professional light setups.
august 21th is when i will start at kendall. very excited about it.
it is great to get paid for learning and than teaching it.
it is like they pay you for playing
Congratulations great work. you will be a real asset to these students, if you can teach as well as your portfolio is, then you will be a fantastic lecturer.
As for rendering engines (such as Yafray) its rather interesting. i have had more positive feedback about Blender renders (multi-layer hacks, photoshoped to hell afterwards with layer overlays…) than I have with realistic Yafray renders. For some reason the guys at work don’t want “realistic” to show off the industrial design, they want fake, but controlled (between realistic and an ideal hand rendering).
But perhaps I just need to come and take your Lighting set-up class. which would be very nice indeed. its definitely a different topic to be teaching than modelling, and potentially the perfect place for blender to fit in a production workflow (texturing, lighting, animating and rendering)
Keep it up and keep us informed. i am very interested in all things ID around here.
i can see what you mean. I think we talk about stylized rendering and realistic rendering.
the first one are great to communicate the concept, the last one is good for composing the rendered object into an environment.
In the last case realism is a must, otherwise it looks fake compared to the photography it is composed into.
the last rendering I did for a commission was the tea server for tom muir done in indigo and the result was a hit. it showed people in the metal area how good digital renderings could be.
I think it all depends on for what you need to render.
my dream is blender finally having a somehow acceptable GI rendering.
Flamingo uses the same technology Blender uses, vertex based light color calculation.
however flamingo can also use not only mesh light for this.
with the new edition of having fake caustics and sss I think I have to re evaluate it.
just blurred reflections is missing.
