Good Freelance Design Job Sites?

Hey all,
Not long ago I posted a thread about a good freelance design site I’d found. It was fine, but not huge.I know we’ve got some graphic artists her so, Im looking for other such sites for:
Freelance Graphic Designers, logo design, art, web design.

Ive looked around, havent really found anything great. Any pointers would be great.

Oh, and for anyone who happens to be in need of a graphic artist

Ah, I love these types of sites; where ebay would have been made for $200. Yeah right.

FreelanceWhores.com
LowBalling.com
IWorkForPeanuts.com

I personally feel that you’re pretty much dreaming if you think that a site like that (or, in my experience, any “jobs” site no matter how well-advertised) is actually going to get you the job you’re dreaming of.

Why? Well, come to think of it, there are many reasons:

(1) No barrier to entry: Absolutely anyone who finds the site can post on it, and say anything they want to, and pretty much everyone does. Okay, so now you’ve got a whole bunch of hopeful wannabees all lined-up in a database saying “pick me! pick me!” But if you were on the opposite side of that desk, would that be an efficient strategy for you? Instead of the 20 or so “resumes from hopefuls” that you’d have to pick through from a newspaper ad, you’ve downloaded 2,000. Wheee… (Furthermore, you can be sure that 1,999 of those people have no initiative at all… they posted, and then they stopped, “waiting to hear from you.” Well, “Waiting For Godot” would be a better term for it. Sorry.)

(2) Shoe-leather is a great filter: The person who is willing to pound the pavement, within the geographic region 25 miles in radius from his home, and to sell his abilities instead of simply snapping at the bait that lands in the water, is very likely to be the sort of person you are looking for. And he has some measure of social skills, too.

(3) “All the gold… in Cal-i-fornia…” really is “in a bank in the middle of Beverly Hills in somebody else’s name.” In other words, there is no “promised land,” and if there is you’re already in it. “Bloom where you are planted.” If you’re good, the work will come to you by download. If you’re not (yet), well, there really is an endless number of applications for computer-graphics “beyond Lucasfilm and DreamWorks.” It is a truism, but also true, that the best jobs are not “found,” but rather custom made.

sundial: you misunderstand what he means by “design job”. he’s not talking about the job of his dreams that he’ll live out the rest of his days doing. he’s talking about short, freelance jobs. trust me, those sites provide them.

lukus: … it’s not worth it.

heh, yeah, Im not planning on being a graphic designer for the rest of my life anyway
Just trying to make some money, I might as well make it doing something I enjoy…
Thanks anyway man
