Good morning coffee

Hey everybody,
i’m proud that i can show you my latest work in Blender. I’m ‘new’ in it (I think it’s been 1 year already - with stop and go) and this is the best work I’ve done so far. I have to apologize for my English, i’m not a native speaker, so please be patient while reading the text

Andrew Price really inspired me for this scene with his tutorial Introduction to the Cycles Rendering Engine.

The scene is really simple and made up of a cup of coffee, a plate and a donut. The Depth of field gives attention on the coffee drops above the cup and the coffe itself is made using the ‘Wave modifier’, so I had not to bake the whole fluid. The thing I find the most interesting is the yellow morning light, that comes from the ‘window’ on the right side.

I’d like to get some criticism so I know what I’ve done good and what I can make better.

So here is it:

Good start! I would suggest you to turn down the light, because the image is quite blown out. Also you could work on the composition. But as I said, good start!

Hey,
as Triastase already suggested, try to play with the camera, until you find some great angle.
Good coffee should also have some foam, at least a little around the edges.
The last thing that comes to mind is that the overall tone seems a little too yellow for my liking, yellow light, yellowish table and walls… Just google coffee and watch the images you like. There is usually some balance between darker brown and white. You did fine job on the modeling, now spend some time on colors, composition and surroundings. I understand that you want to show off those droplets, but you must not forget everything else.

good luck
(the shadow of the window is a nice touch btw.)

yum…(that coffee’s thick!!). I would possibly like to see the handle of the cup? Perhaps put it to the foreground left, so as to not cause issues with the doughnut… What’s you’re coffee shader setup - you’re not using any volume absorption? Great start.
