Here I am struggling in the evergreen quest for realism with blender and cycles. Since I was bored with the composition I made previously (a pretty standard one, which I probably won’t publish), I decided to recycle the scene using some fancy furniture I made up and adding a more solemn feel.
I’d like to point out that except for the oil painting (which I made and scanned ), the texturing is completely procedural.

Your idea of realism gives an exagerated importance to bumps and gloss.
Is it expected that you use safety shoes at home?
Cause you risking your little toe on that floor… if not your nose.
