Good texturing software, Free+Open Source?

I’m currently looking for alternatives to GIMP for texturing. I need a good Open Source+Free software that is capable of clone-brushing from multiple layers at once unto new corresponding layers.

Let’s say I have a texture 1024*1024 of a brick wall, which I’ve created a normal map and a displacement map.

Then I import the Diffuse, Normal and Displacement into the software’s different layers, each on their own layers.

What I want to do is to create 3 new layers (CloneDiffuse, CloneNormal, CloneDisp) and be able to extend and clone brush a larger texture, lets say 2048*2048 using a Clone Brush and it will clone from all the other layers, placing the cloned Normal Map in CloneNormal-layer, Displacement in CloneDisp etc.

Is there any free software that can do this? GIMP can’t.

Krita seems to me an excellent open source software for drawing and texturing, but I’m not sure if it can do what you say … you can download it here:

Yes, Krita works for me also.

So, how do I do this in Krita? Painting on different layers etc.
