I am going to try to convince my dad to buy a new computer. I live in calgary, and I was wondering what kind of computer I should by. I know I want a strong graphics card, lots of ram and lots of processor. What kind of computers would you guys suggest?
I’m not rich…so it does not have to be top of the line…but it should be able to at least run GLSL; which my current computer cannot.
I would build a computer. You can get a really nice computer for fairly cheap.

You can get a fairly decent computer for about $600 on newegg.
Although, if you’re looking for something to last you for the next 4-6 years, I would recommend dishing out a flat 1000, and getting a Core i5/i7 system, with one of the higher end nvidia cards, of course.
As for RAM: 4 Gigs is, and will probably continue to be, more than enough for a wide variety of users.
For me, the rule of thumb is simple: Buy last-years top of the line, and you won’t have to buy anything else for the next 5-7 years (maybe a couple of hard-drives).
PS: I’m not rich either.
