Got a character. How do I "group" it for use in other animation projects?

Hello. I’ve imported a makehuman character successfully into a .blend file. After I get it set up with textures and the armature, etc., how do I make it “usable” in other blender files?

For example, if i go Append or Link , and bring in another file, I don’t know how to get it ALL-- material, armatures, everything!

tia.

Select everything you want in a group and Ctrl-G. When you want to select part of a group - right click - to select whole group Shift-G > select objects in same group.

OK, so I’ve grouped a rigged character, but cannot pose it within the new scene. All I get is object mode when I right-click on it.

Is there something special I need to do to the mesh+rig when saving it?

Thanks!

For complex stuff, i would Append-Link it into a fresh and totally empty new file and save it under an easy-to-guess-and-find name (best even in a special reperory). Afterwards, you can Appen-Link this one from any other file your working on, giving each of that imported caracter or object a different ID name.

EDIT: when doing so, control the names used within the modifiers to make sure the elements of the new groups really are conected.

You need to make the rig object a proxy one.Select the group in the new scene/file press Ctrl+Alt+P and click the oobject name you have ginev to the armature. Then you will be able to pose it.

Do you have to repaint all the weights again? I guess you can append the weights also right?
