GPU and Memory problems............................

would be nice to have an option to use local harddisc memory or ram to render things in cycles. Graphics cards memory is not enough to render certain things in cycles. An option inside blender to cache Cuda things to ram and then after that to Cuda or cycles would be an massive step forward… don`t know… is it in theory possible to code??? Currently it is possible to use different render layers and composite them… maybe there is a way to adress cycles in a clever way to avoid GPU memory problems…cheers…;)…

There’s a thread in the news forum about Cuda version 6 that would be able to allow your GPU to make use of the system RAM so as to overcome the memory limits of the card, but the limitations of the memory bus would ensure that most of the benefit gets wiped out as the card waits for data.

Hi Ace.

sounds good… it`s better to wait for data acces then loosing a rendering and creativity…

If waiting is more important then speed, then you are able to use the CPU based rendering for Cycles… you get total access to system ram…

As mentioned, if you don’t have enough GPU memory to render your scene, render with CPU.

o.k. thanks and sorry for posting at wrong place.
