GPU cycles not available issue

I installed linux mint 17.2 Cinnamon on my Asus Rog G751JT with GTX 970m 3gb.

I have the working nvidia driver enabled and also installed nvidia modprobe. I’m using Nvidia 346 driver version I think. I was able to get cycles to work but only when I use Blender that came from the zip file downloaded from Blender.org site.

Although this my current work around of getting my gtx 970m to work with gpu rendering in cycles, I actually wanted to install blender through the software manager BUT for some reason, Blender doesn’t read the gpu for gpu rendering in cycles. Is there anyway to fix that?

You need to install a lot of megabytes of “nvidia-cuda-toolkit,” and still may not work:

Anyway it’s recomended to use Blender downloaded from the official site. Why you want/need to use Blender installed from the repositories?

Edit:
By the way, I don’t know in what Ubuntu version is based this version of Mint. So I do not know what version of Blender install from the repositories. 9xx cards have support from Blender 2.73:
