GPU rendering for volumes

I’ve got a very simple question: Have any of the Blender Devs given word of when we can excpect GPU rendering to be compatible with volumetrics?

Problem depend on proprietary blob (CUDA or OPenCL compiler), only way is wait for another blob version and try it. it can take many years, as in AMD example, but CUDA have issues too.

If you’re looking for a huge speed increase, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. There were a couple of branches where volumes ran on the GPU and it wasn’t much better than the CPU. Volumes are just slow in general, and things like smoke sims/voxel info takes up so much memory that they make GPU rendering even more prohibitive than it already is.
