Graph Editor: Visually select dimmed curves instead of selecting them via channel list?

Context: Graph Editor

View > Only Selected Curve Keyframes is very useful to lock channels so that you only affect the currently selected curve.

However I’m looking for a quicker way to select dimmed curves. I know I can click around in the channel list but I find that inefficient. I want a way to select dimmed curves in their visual context, ie. on the ‘canvas’ where I actually see them! Selecting curves in the channel list is a hit-and-miss process and it forces my mindset to go from creative to analytical which simply breaks the flow.

Is there any possibility? I thought there would be a method to modifier-click dimmed curves but that doesn’t seem possible?

Otherwise I think this is a good idea for a simple addon!

Maybe this will fit

The point of Only selected curve keyframes is to avoid accidental edits on curves you don’t want to touch. Wouldn’t such a change defeat that point ? I suppose it could be done via a special hotkey instead of a click ? so that curve edition and curve selection are kept separate.

I’d consider adding this to the long list of proposed improvements for the animation system revamp which is happening now. It’s not foundational, so there’s probably no hurry, but I say it fits in there.

Interesting. Sorry for asking, are you working/contributing as a Blender developer? I’m still a bit :new: in the community so pardon my asking.

I agree and it’s important to underline that I don’t want to change the purpose of Only selected curve keyframes:

I just want a really intuitive and fast way to Alt-Click on any curve – not just clicking keys but curves – and quickly change to that curve instead.

In a nutshell. A small additional feature added to:

Only selected curve keyframes → make active curve changable by modifier-clicking curves!
