So, I happened to go over to graphicall.org to look at the blender builds…
and failed my sanity roll.
what to all the various things there mean? Is there a key somewhere you all could point me too?

basically on the left you have a list of builds and on the right all those icons are filters so the list will only contain what you’re looking for
mouse over each icon to see what it does (tool tips)
click on a build to see its details
CGCookie made a video about it awhile ago. Also if you hover over things tooltips should pop up to say what the various icons mean and things.
look on the top right and click on one of the icon for OS
and it will list the SVN for that system
then select the one you want and it will open a new page then you can download it

A lot of them are experimental branches - things that have not been merged into the trunk builds. If you only need an up to date build use one of these:- http://www.graphicall.org/trunk
No insult intended, but if you don’t know what it is, chances are you probably don’t need one.
Most things google will answer for you - just search Blender + ‘whatever branch name’.
If you just want an up to date build you can get one from http://builder.blender.org/download/. Updated daily unless you’re an OSX user whose builds seem to constantly fail to compile

Yeah, they have 20 days to update OSX builds. Fortunately, there’re lot of recent OSX builds in graphicall.
Thanks… mostly I was trying to figure out what the various branches were about before deciding if I wanted to do anything other than grabing the latest trunk (if even that)
here’s info on the various summer of code branches
that’s where most of the action is at the moment
