Yeah, so in Illustrator, as you’re adding points with the pen tool, if you hold down the Alt key, you can adjust previous line segments between 2 points… like if you’re tracing a bitmap logo and you want to make a line curve as you’re clicking along the outline without having to exit the pen tool. I call it, the “Go back and curve” feature.
Illustrator’s editing is decent… but when it comes to creating and manipulating splines/curves, c4d is still the most fun to work with…
This project is very impressive. It has a great design direction, and I find really smart the layer-based UI with nodes under the hood. It is rare to see an opensource project that seems to do so many things right, particularly on the parts that are usually not-so-great for this type of application. Perhaps not relying on relatively ancient technology, like GIMP or Inkscape, pays off…
Thanks for posting the Q2 update. If anyone has questions about it or the roadmap or design, just ask here and I’ll be happy to answer!
I guess the burning question is “when the desktop version will be released?”
Based on our current trajectory, probably this fall or early winter. But you can install it as a PWA (progressive web app) today, which should be 95% the same experience. Going from supporting one platform (web, which is naturally cross-platform) to four platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux) is just more development overhead and it’s the only reason it hasn’t happened yet. But we definitely hear the calls for it all the time, so it’s getting closer to the top of our priority list.
I really like the concept of Graphite app. Even the first time a year of so back when I first discovered it I thought it had a great promise. I glad to see it keeps getting beter.
I too am waiting for a desktop version. I probably has a bias against prifessiona web apps. Maybe there is a good reason for bulding web based apps but I am not aware of them.
I can see start using and exploring Graphite for personal and work projects when a desktop app released.
But overall I love the direction of Graphite. I hope that devs don’t forget about good UX/UI. Even with minimal feature set but the great user expirience and clean UI the app can go a long way.
Seems cool, but like the others will probably wait for a desktop app
the lack of a desktop version is the reason this project is not more popular.
i know some guys who where very excited about this project, but once they realized that its only a web app it was instantly a no go
Very cool! I’ll keep an eye on it.
