Grease pencil crashes / blender being bottle necked?

Hi fellow artists,

I’m giving blender’s grease pencil tool a go, but it seems to be very heavy on the scenes. When I try to add line art to something small like a character, the tool runs but it takes about half a minute to load every time a parameter is changed. When the add line art tool is used on something like a set (just a couple houses, nothing too big), it causes blender to freeze and then crash.

The thing is that my desktop (specs down below) isn’t running at its full potential. The task manager doesn’t show any weird spikes when blender crashes and the CPU, RAM and graphics card are only being used for like 20-30%. So I am wondering if the problem lies with blender being prevented from using whatever it needs to run smoothly.

SPECS:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor 3.60GHz
  • 32 GB RAM
  • 64 bit operating system
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
  • Windows 10

Is there any one who experienced the same issue with grease pencil, or blender being bottle necked in general, and could possibly point me into the right direction? Thanks in advance!
