Cab somebody help me with this coloring like a pencil
I have set the color attribute to my prefered color but when I start painting I get only a blackmarker color
How can I chose to select a color attribute was called vector color .
I want to to some painting ( vector) over a color
Anybody
kameel2c.blend (2.4 MB)
No i am using vector coloring as you can see in the attachement
yes, but if you will change that black color to something different, it would paint exactly that color.
I don’t want the classic material you can also choose for vector coloring what i did but somehow i can not get the vector color working ? So I need a little help with that
I can get it work only not in my blend file see attachement very strange but maybe its simple.
You can also use the tint brush below the eraser (or enter vertex paint mode) to paint over your strokes in a different color.

What you cannot do is having 2 different colors inside one filled area (If you want to do hard shadows for example)
for that I’d use a separate layer set to multiply and a mask.
Keep in mind that you can lock colours as well as layers and refine your shadows in sculpt mode.
Also: vertex colors/ attribute colors are only visible in material preview/ and rendered, not in solid / wireframe shading
Thank you very much I appreciate this.
Did not now that I switched to 2d Animation instead of 2D full canvas did make such a big difference,
But its working now .
Thank you very much
Glad it helped you
Keep going
When I choose for 2D full canvas then it works but full I lose my 2D Animation view where I could see the layers. Its very hard to work this way
Ok thanks what use has the 2d Animation screen while it meshes everything up.
Like I’ve said here some moons ago, sometimes Blender it’s just Blender. That says it all
P.S. May I marked my answer as a solution?
O yes for today i quit because i am getting confused about materials.
Thanks for all the help.
Always glad to help
Have a good one!
It is very hard to paint the shadows why is that. I get thin lines with difficult.
kameel2d.blend (2.8 MB)
Sorry, I couldn’t help you with that.
No problem
Filling and shading can be pretty frustrating in grease pencil, especially if you are new to it and / or are used to a different software workflow.
A few things to note:
- try to have clean outlines that close. (sometimes it looks like they are closed, but the stroke radius is deceiving you (you can see that in edit mode)
- its better to make the ends of your strokes cross. afterwards you can get rid of the unwanted lines with the scissor tool like so:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97QHsTFM3YQ - the gap closure mode can be set to extend or to radius and the strength can be adjusted with mousewheel, sometimes one works better than the other.
- also there is a precision setting in the top row that you can play with (don’t set it to high or the camel will fall asleep
) - use the paint bucket for the base color filling.
- use paint bucket + shift to draw shapes (to close gaps manually or to create the shadows)
- use the paint bucket + ctrl and then click in an empty area outside the character / multiple shapes to fill everything
- use shapes rather than pencil lines to paint in larger areas and try to have as few fill areas as possible. Otherwise you will sometimes get those thin blitzer lines you mentioned.
I cleaned your drawing a little. Maybe it helps.

And keep on fighting the fight. In the end it’ll be worth it ![]()
