This project aims to remember the strikes and struggles of the beginning of the 20th century, a time marked by large social organizations that aimed to improve the quality of life of workers. These union struggles resulted in a significant reduction in working hours, better health conditions and prosperity for the working class, but unfortunately, old issues become current again with changes in the job market. Games, animation and VFX artists were uberized. Our salary conditions, deadlines and unpaid vacations are analogous to workers in the industrial revolution. We must be aware that we are all specialized labor, and without it, no creative project will be delivered.
With each passing day, our generation has more doubts about whether we will be able to retire, have health plans covering the minimum, combat poverty and lack of work. All things being equal, we will live as the 20th century began: 14 hours of work, no vacations, no labor rights, no adequate remuneration.
Bringing this historical and social perspective in this illustration is important to me, just studying the subject is not enough. The political situation prohibits discussing concrete problems, such as our living conditions, giving space to demagogue figures to explore the affections of the unsuspecting, exposing the worst in the human race.
In Brazil in 2024, we see the VAT (Life beyond work) movement resuming topics forgotten by the left. I believe that this movement can be important for the Brazilian people who yearn for change and a true debate about the future of our generations.
