Group Instance for Soft Body with Constraints not identical

Hmm… so my problem is fairly simple, and I finally noticed a snag in the Blender system… Group Instances aren’t fully supported… or I’m tired and im projecting my incompetence :wink:

Here’s the problem: I found this awesome “plant” for bge on youtube that works great … the leaves fall with soft bodies and it uses rigid body joints for constraints…

HOWEVER, the problem comes when you try to make the object a Group and Instance it… the rigid body joints disappear and the leaves fall apart during playback. Now i tried making the object a parent to an empty vertice to see if maybe the Group would keep children’s constraints and then the soft body didnt seem to work… but the leaves stayed intact… I checked if maybe the empty had a physics property that bipassed the parents softbodies but that doesnt seem to be the case

So am i missing something or is this another Group Instance issue? below is an attachment… Excuse the layout, still getting use to 2.56

I’m waiting for some expert to say if this is really supported. I’m working with workarounds now…

you used work arounds? did you get it work? would be awesome if you could share how you managed that…

i hate duplicating objects as it makes changing them real slow in large scenes… especially if i plan to use the plant largely to make the scene look more organic…

I generate the softbody cache with the original object and copy it to the cache folder in the destiny linked folder, like if was generated ( but i must update it in changes). I think blender dont generate the cache from linked groups because a bug. I already submited to bug tracker: https://projects.blender.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=25735&group_id=9&atid=498

I had one proyect with a blend file in 2.49 of 200 MB. I used one scene for “store them” and for the hair i had to generate new copies … Was crazy. Now its awesome the new physics with linked object (big projects with a lot of effects its posible!! :D) with the fix of softbody could be the last stone in the road for me.
