Group Instance Origin and Bone Offsets

I have two problems.

#1: When using group instances, the lines that define the origin are huge and they clutter up the image. How do I turn them off? http://s9.postimg.org/eslz9x7f3/blender_issue.png

#2: When I set an object to be the child of a bone, the object immediately gets offset by the bone that it is a child of. How do I setup a rig so that I keep the offset of the object when it is initially assigned to a bone?

Okay guys, I figured #1 out after lots searching. When you click on a group instance, go to the object data tab in the properties window. You will see a a slider for size, just drop it all the way down to resize the axis.
