Grouping video strips together!

Hey guys,

I would like to group my video strips together.I select them with box select - and hit CTR+G. Sometimes it groups, sometimes not, most often i get the error “Please select all related strips!” As if box select has not selected something! Then I manually select the same strips one by one - and there’s a better chance that this time it will group them together.

Not sure what is going on here!? Why sometimes it works, sometimes not?
There’s a zero chance I left out something i want to group with box select.

Please advise,
Thank you!

really noone?

I have a feeling that box select is not selecting all the items, since individual rightclicking over some strips is still needed for grouping to finally group! Visually those strips are marked as selected, but after rightclicking - suddenly you can group.

Sorry maris, I don’t know why no one replied.

The idea of a metastrip (or group) is to combine a bunch of strips into one strip to keep things organized. In order to do this you must select the strips you want along with all their friends. If you have an image strip that is being modified by a transform strip 5 layers above it, you must select the image strip AND its modifying transform strip as well in order to put the image strip into a group.

It sounds like the randomness is because you sometimes select the entire circle of friends and sometimes don’t. So go through each strip you want to add to the metastrip and make sure they aren’t associated with anything outside your selection.

Hope that helps!

Yes, thank you!
I think the question at the end here is why sometimes blockselect is not selecting everything i mark!

OK. I was able to replicate the issue.

It seems like the problem only occurs if you don’t select the entirety of the outermost strip. Make sure the selection box encompasses the entire area of the strip and I believe you should be good to go.
