I’m hoping to create a procedural pland addon for blender, but I’m having a hard time getting started, due to the constant flux of blender 2,5 coding and the lack of documentation on how a complete noob can get started.
This is why everything is done using an arrar so far, it would be nice to add a bit of randomisation and force, but I dont have the know how as yet.
The Stalk is created by arraying a poly tube along a path in z, with a twist and scale added using an empty, the merge option keeps evetthing togeather, and a curve modifier also assined to the same path for control
The flower head is a seperate piece of geometry assigend ad a cap to the above array
The leaves are also arrayes in z bit with a larger offset and a twist using another empty.
I’m on OS X and I can’t load your file with latest build (32184). But I got the idea with your video, and what a great idea!!! I really want to play with your file. I will try to find some old build… who knows…
Thank’s for sharing!
Ha! Campbell fixed the problem now: “own changes in recent commit broke curve loading because the curve type checking function looked in the curves listbase.”
Very interesting idea!!! Thank you again for sharing!!!
Sussed the texturing, just need to use UV Textures
I then had the idea to create a plane, assign some hair particles and set the object to the stem… IT WORKED… I love blender, I feel like a spaceman going into the unknown, discovering things that have never been seen before
The video is still being processed, thanks for your interest everyone:
Yes it its a cool way to get complexity, I found when I tried this earlier this year that the cloth sim reeeeally slows down with all those leaves etc. I was applying it to palm fronds as they are very regular and easy to duplicate out. I couldnt get the right balance between stifness and flopiness though. And the mapping was incorrect over a variety of leaves.
Sorry, I diddnt see hat anyone had replied to my last post here, the music is by The Phaze called Dirty angel, this website has a load of free music available by new artists on a creative commons (just give them credit and a donation if you wish) http://www.jamendo.com/en/creativecommons
Heres a tree I’ve done, but will post again soon as I’ve found that you can get more variation using the cv’s in the curve, by scaling tham with an "Alt S "
