Mesh smoothing based on curvature flow operator in a diffusion equation. - Alexander Pinzon Fernandez (Mentor: Daneil Genrich)
Computer graphics objects reconstructed from real world contain undesirable noise. A Mesh smoothing removes undesirable noise while still preserving desirable geometric and shape of the original model. This project improving the mesh smoothing tools in blender, based on curvature flow operator in a diffusion equation.
New tesselator + “nice triangles” - Andrei Simionescu (Mentor: Campbell Barton)
The idea is to build a new tessellation tool to replace the old scanfill one. The new tesselator should be fast, first of all, but also handle degeneracies, handle non-planer polygons, deal with the general case of polygons containing other polygons. Post-processing the tessellation/triangulation to make “nice” triangles/quads/etc. as a basis for an improved ‘Beautify’ tool.
What is the practical application for these two projects?
Reading them made me think of how great it would be to have a modifier that adaptively tessellated a mesh based on angle and distance from camera. It would allow us to do things like crank displacement, but still still be able intelligently tessellate it down to manageable levels at render time, with no discernible loss in quality.
Obviously, dynamic tessellation (along with sub pixel displacements) occuring in cycles at render time would be even more efficient, but one step at a time.
It’s great to see projects to improve the BGE - being able to play games on Android really will be nice. What is the “Hive System”, though? Anyway, can’t wait to see how things progress!
Great, that google granted so much projects again!
I would love to see project “porting the bge for android” succeed!
please if you do SSS then from start add an option to turn of SSS for GI. in a pathtracer the contribution from GI is very small. since all llighting in cycles is from a light it doesnt matter.
about modeling tools. it would be great if we have some simple painting tool for vertices. like bsurfaces. but more simple. without the grease pencil. i would also like a loop tool where youcan move two loops in the opposite direction. like in 3dsmax
i dont understand what this means. i couldnt find any paper on google .

No inferred lighting for GE…
Great news! +1 @m9105826 about microdisplacement, that’s sad. Anyways, killer stuff being proposed! Congrats
Cheers
Great selection; I hope all make it through.
are there any further in depth reads for the topics?
maybe we can also get “the two guys” to help out.
Precision Modeling Tools - Luke Frisken (Mentor: Martin Poirier)
Add several new, and more flexible snapping and constraint modes to Blender. Eventually work towards incorporating these features into several more tools such as knife and loop cut. Addition of several new tools such as a extrude by rail, and a pen tool which makes extensive use of snapping/constraint modes.
As an architect I´m very excited about the new tools that bmesh will proportionate now.
This will be coming with the Harmony branch, I believe inferred lighting is the final step (phase 3), whereas phase 2 is just coming to a close now (I think)
And its great to see so many BGE related projects again this year! The android port will be especially exciting. Cant wait to read more about the converter improvements too.
wow. lovely, especially looking towards viewport FX! go Blender!
Some great projects, good luck to those involved.
I’m not 100% sure, but as long as I understood reading about hive is that he wants to change the logic brick system into a nodes one using “The Hive System”, which is a way to graphically make programs, that would give a LOT of scalability and power!
I’m excited about this project, it would be awesome to bring more programming freedom to the bge.
This project proposes a new and robust mesh smoothing tool for blender user that require improves the appearance of surfaces models.
New methods to scan computer graphics objects using the Kinect ZCam within Blender, need to remove the noise present at the time of capture.
This mesh smoothing method produce higher quality results without shrinkage. The smoothing tool current collapses the mesh after several iterations.
This mesh smoothing method permit uses a hard and soft constraints on the positions of the points in the mesh to maintain control over the shape.
This mesh smoothing method can help to remove noise generated during the sculpting, without removal the desired details of the model.

good luck to who ever is developing the modelling tools
I’m Most interested in the snapping tools.
