I upgraded three 1080p monitors to 1440p ones. Strangely, Windows won’t boot after BIOS when monitors are connected via GTX 1080 Ti displayport. It’s not the DP cables (iVanky brand), I’ve checked its 20 pin and updated Nvidia DP firmware along with all fixes google can find. But no luck.
The same cables have not issue with Dell Precision 7510 laptop connecting to the same monitors. So, it must have something to do with GTX 1080 Ti. I’m using the most currently Nvidia Studio driver.
I’m all out of ideas and throwing a hail marry in here, hope fellow blenderers would save the day.
I feel your pain! We had the same trouble some years ago when we got new workstations and monitors and connected them with Display Port cables.
All of a sudden the workstation wouldn’t boot any more, some didn’t even go to the BIOS and just kept sending beep codes. Other workstations booted without a problem and after a reboot they didn’t.
One of my colleagues had the unique “fix” of the problem by unplugging his monitor, wait until Windows was up and then hotplugging the cable again. It was PAIN!
We noticed that connecting the same hardware via HDMI was working flawlessly.
After a while we found the cause in some hidden techie forum. I don’t have the original link any more, but what we basically learned was that Display Port has the ability to not only transport “images” and “sound” but also power. The problem is that it seems like every vendor has its own idea of “how much power” and “on which wire” to send it. To make a long story short: the cables we used and the combination of gfx cards and monitors caused some sort of short circuit and that caused the problems.
We were quite lucky to find the culprit. In this forum were people where RAID systems with dozens of HDs all of a sudden started showing errors and they kept ordering new HDs but in the end it was all caused by the same problem: a short circuit via Display Port cables!
Thank you for sharing. It’s really weird that even the DP cable that comes with the monitor is doing the same thing. I’ll buy some VESA certified DP cables.
