Hello everyone!
It’s time to share with you the process of creating the animated world of Guzikland. I really hope this story will be useful to 3D graphics enthusiasts like myself ![]()
I made my first post featuring the main character, Guzik, on August 20, 2022. And now, he has a whole universe, friends, fans, and even a girlfriend.
I must admit that Guzik is the very first character I designed in 3D.
Now I’ll share with you some of the steps I took before the first short cartoon, Guzikland, came to fruition.
I created the main character based on my own ideas, in the form of this sketch, which I drew back in 2011 ![]()
And here’s the model, ready for rigging and animation:
I clearly understood that he should be simple but important. So I came up with the idea that he would be the director of a button factory by profession. I created his personality and favorite habits. For added credibility, I added another accessory—red glasses.
Guzik’s mission is to show that everything we have is the result of our thoughts and desires. He is very kind in his intentions, usually positive, goal-oriented, and knows the value of money.
Based on the mission, I envisioned a game where Guzik, having a desire, would go to his technical department (me) and order what he wanted. In other words, Guzik knew he would have everything—the main thing was to want it right. Actually, it’s just like in our lives. What’s the main thing? Right, the main thing is to want it!
I created social media accounts for him and decided that he would become a future 3D influencer. Thus, according to Forboss, the world’s most famous Guzikland magazine, he became the richest button manufacturer and landed on the cover of the magazine:
I must say that all this time, I had a very poor understanding of how 3D animation in Blender worked. And at that point, I didn’t want to delve into it, because I thought it was incredibly complicated and I’d never be able to figure it out. Now that I’m writing this, it’s really funny. The journey begins with a thumping shove, guys!
So I decided that Guzik urgently needed to release a button collection, which I did. I released the collection and published it on the NFT marketplace. And Forboss magazine featured each collection on its cover ![]()
After some time, I released another collection with photos of Guzik taking a bath in various poses:
Then I realized Guzik needed a workspace where he could develop his collections. So I designed this space for him.
Guzik lived alone in his large house and always dreamed of a friend. He wrote about it on his social media. He wrote that he had ordered a raccoon friend from his technical department. And he had been waiting for it for a long time.
Meanwhile, I was learning how to work with wool in a blender and was delighted with the first results I was starting to see.
And on New Year’s Eve 2023, I gave Guzik the gift of meeting my friend.
This is where I’ll stop my story about working on Guzikland, because after developing the raccoon, I switched to other projects and abandoned Guzik for over a year.
If you’re interested in the story, please let me know. If you’d like to know more details—how exactly I developed the raccoon in Blender and any other details—be sure to let me know; I’m ready to share them with you.
To be continued…
Spoiler: Guzik wanted a car…
