ha ha ha funny way to model a head

anyone else painted spots all over their faces to get a good 3d model.

ha ha ha i don’t have one of those lazer things they use at WETA, so i am doing the face modeling the budget way.

just gets the 3d structure of the face, and then i can add details and crap.

working towards my first head model, the last test attempt was done a different way.

duh! (homer voice)

HAHAH you so FUNNY!

my eyes arghhhh…
bloody hell man, first head model with a post count like that

hey something I’m trying at the moment is to join front and side images together… this way you get them aligned perfectly first, and then just use it as background image, with about 30% transparent, or is that 70%?

zenitor LOL

some people do so much non organic modeling that its not funny LOL.

i have never done anything organic, i have never touched IKA.

i know paths off by heart, i know particles, i know IPO’s, i know the shit+crtl keys for making things snap.

basicly i do most of my work with straight Cad type precision. i do everything to exact numbers etc…

but this project required me to branch out a bit so yeah i am learning new skills.

with the new tools-edgeloop select and cut it’s a good time to work on organics…
I really must start focusing on animation and texturing, and ears  arghhh!

yay first face, now to do the rest of the head and texturing etc… + hair. shouldn’t take more than a few hours should it?

That’s looking really good. It’s funny, cause I thought about doing the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago, except to my kids instead of myself. They love to have their faces painted anyway!

Like I said, looking good. I’m always a big fan of creative low tech solutions.

lol thanks harkyman.

i have one sugestion, take the photos of their faces from as far away as possible with the zoom set up as high as possible.

this way the dots will actually line up LOL, unlike mine that i needed to estimate a bit.

Very cool technique, indeed! Let´s paint some face!

It’s not such an odd method really. I remember seeing stuff about the making of Terminator 2. They painted a grid on Robert Patrick’s entire body and made him walk in his underware through a parking lot. They filmed this and it formed the basis for a shot where he walks out of an explosion in metal form.

So if it’s good enough for Digital Domain, don’t feel like you’re doing anything goofy.

Even if I am laughing at you.

Dude! Very clever! Looks a little like Jason - and the mesh looks cool to

heh, the model looks just like you! now ya need to work on some good hair… nice work so far too!

i kno this is an old thread, but alltaken? wuts the happs with the exodus project?

Hahaha!!!
well, if it works, why not!
the model is coming along nicely. If it turns out real well, I wonder if we will start to see more people doing this?

Great idea!
I’ll definitely use it if I need to make a model of someone I know.

it really looks good ^^

make this with both sides of your head, that should look much more realsitic, because human recognize heads because of the differences in symetry

funny idea

wow. I seriously don’t know what to say. Genius or madness? I have no idea. But it seems to be working great and that is the most important thing. It seems like your model really looks like your face to, I’m impressed, and if you use some “win”-mapped textures you could really recreate your face.

my 2 cents,
WeWa

damn you!

Thats really good, especially for a first time head (my first try, which I’m still working on, looks awful) .

I really like the dots idea although I agree with whoever said you should do both sides individually becuase it looks alot better. To test this theory, take a human face pic cut it in half and mirror the half, it should look really odd.
