Hair emit from texture

Hi,

According to this doc (http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Manual/Physics/Particles/Hair)

To let the particles be emitted only from a certain part of the mesh there are three possibilities:

  • Use a vertex group.
  • Use a texture.
  • Use another mesh.

But i’m not finding an example which uses a texture for density / emit value.

HOW?

*** NB:

Basically i’m wanting to do stubble (hair) on a head mesh which matches exactly with other textures.

I’ve tried weight painting but it doesn’t seem precise enough.

Next I tried selecting a vert group, setting up the particle emitter and baking various maps, e.g. to do it backwards.

From the Blender 2.5 Tools todo list http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Tools#Particles.2FHair

Particles/Hair

  • Mapping textures to particle attributes.

You’ll have to use vertex weight painting for now.

Cheers…
