Hair for anime

I’m trying to create dreadlocks, an afro, or other Black hairstyles for one of my models. However, most of the tutorials I find rely on Blender’s hair system. When I looked into using the hair system for anime-style characters, I found out that it’s generally not recommended due to animation challenges.

I couldn’t find any discussions or resources about whether the hair system is suitable for all hairstyles, including dreadlocks. Additionally, I haven’t come across any tutorials specifically focused on creating these types of hairstyles for anime characters.

Does anyone have advice, tips, or resources for making Black hairstyles like dreadlocks and afros in an anime style?
