I see the issue. Thanks for the demonstration. As you mentioned, there is no such node group in your case indeed. I will investigate that. For the a quick fix, you can try the following:
Instead of searching for the “Surface Deform” group, add a new Geometry Nodes modifier and create an empty node group. In the node editor search for the “Deform Curves on Surface” node and connect it to the graph.

As for your question: the addon doesn’t support such a workflow out of the box for now, although It is doable, it requires a little manual work.
I made a little demonstration with some extracted edgeloops, you can check it out.
There are some jump cuts and the video quality is not ideal, but I hope it is understandable. Please let me know if it works for you.
