Hair particles....

Hi out there

I am very new to blender and try to do some hairy stuff.
I read some tutorials about that but was left with some further questions. I hope you could help. Thanks in advance.

  1. used a plane with a particlesystem for the hair. Now I want to try some direct animation for the plane to get the indirect animation of the hair. I set some keys for the plane and used particle motion settings + soft body for the hair. But the result is, that the plane uses the softbodysettings. ? How to get a propper animation only for the hair?

  2. I am was used to work with Max and hairFX. To get a good hairdesign I had to use a lot of guide splines. Each of those splines has its own area of influence. Therefore I painted a mask or used something like blenders polygroups. Is this the same way in blender too?
Do you know a good tutorial how to set up hair in blender?

Thanks a lot for any reply/help.
Kind regards
Hilmar

  1. Next to the button you push to turn on soft bodies should be a drop down menu. Select your particle system in the drop down menu before you click the button that enables soft bodies.

  2. The parent particles basically act like splines. You can control almost everything about them (styling, length, density, etc…), but some things are little harder to do then others.

Hi tak
thanks a lot for your help. I am working with the Version 2.45. no pulldown menue near the SOFT BODY button. I think blender wants me to work with GOALS. ?
But before I go on, I will change to a new blender Version.

So I could reshape the parent spline? Is it like to work with a curve ore must I use some brushtools? In hairFX i had to create the spline and picked it as a guide. I saw some tutorials about to use curves to shape the hair. Is it what you mean?
Thanks in advance
