Hair particles.

Ok, I hope somebody will help me.
I was modeling a human with mirror modifier and then faced a problem with the particle system. I created a vertex group, but particles appeared only on mirrored side. Then switched off mirror modifier and duplicated on half of my body, scaled it -1 and rotated so that it is a complete match and joined 2 objects. After creating a new vertex group and adding particles to it, they appear only on one side of my body. The other side is almost empty, except for little tiny dots(which are probably supposed to be particles).
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

P.S.
Please reply if you can really help, not just for fun.

Actually if you had mirror modifier than all you needed to do was to just apply it to make the whole object a mesh. Any way after you did all that you should recalculate normal [Ctrl] + [N] in edit mode, [Ctrl] + [A] to reset scale in object mode. Make sure to remove doubles as well. See if that works.

Nothing happens.
If somebody is bored out of his mind I can add .blend file.

Please can somebody do something about it?

i had exactly the same types of problems over here: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=199234

i am using 2.54 but i notice that the Mirror modifier is still on the mesh.
I had to recreate particle system and vertex groups, but i took 2 screenshots, 1.png before applying modifier and 2.png after.

(in both cases, the hair was all over the head, and the other side looks correct, it was just this side of the head that had problems. I have Children->Faces turned on in the particle settings)

its because you have mirrored the other side using the scale -1.
I suggest you delete the mirrored side, then use the mirror modifier and apply it. then see if it works

I’ve done as much as I could, but there is no symmetry.

If somebody has a solution I would appreciate if you could modify my file and put it here the same as I did.
This model is with a mirror modifier. If necessary I can add that scaled and rotated one.

Does nobody really can help me? Basically it is just a stupid question: “How to use particles if the mirror modifier is on?”

i had that problem too. what i did was kick out the particle system, then applied the modifier, reworked the weights a little and then went back and redid the particle system. was it a pain to redo the hair when it was perfect…yes. but i got to redo my hair better and faster. good luck.

Well haven’t even starter doing haircut since it is not working from the beginning. Could you please do whatever did with my project too?

Made some major changes to your file that you might want to compare to the original. The important items have already been mentioned.

Apply mirror.
Proper Scale.

The most important after applying mirror mod etc. is scale. Your version has a character who is huge. Using a scale that works more like the real world make everything else much easier.

The particle system is the same one you created though the particle editing is new.

This is in 2.5 as I’m not sure which version you are using.

I am usin 2,49b therefore opening your files causes some trouble. Anyway I tried to scale down before applying mirror modifier, but nothing changed.
Could you please repeat step by step what, in which order to do.

Ok, here are your 2.49 instructions.

  1. Go into Object Mode - Remove all mirror modifiers
  2. Alt G - clear OBJECT location 1/2 body mesh
  3. Select all the Eye components of one eye and delete
  4. Select all the components of the other eye and Ctrl J join meshes
  5. Click the “center” button in MESH panel to put the origin to the center of the eye.
  6. Move the eye to a different layer temporarily.
  7. Same steps 3-4 for the tongue and teeth, only also select the body mesh before joining.
  8. Position the tongue and teeth in edit mode.
  9. Move camera and light to a different layer.
  10. Select mesh in object mode and scale to POINT.1 (this will make him about 3 Blender units tall with is still quite tall if you think of each Blender unit as a meter.
  11. Grab the mesh and position it with the feet level with the “x” axis red line.
  12. Apply rotation and scale to mesh “ctrl a”
  13. Shift c to center the 3d cursor
  14. Click “center cursor” button in Mesh panel with mesh selected.
  15. Move the eye back to the same layer as the mesh.
  16. Scale and position the eye object to fit the mesh in OBJECT mode.
  17. Apply scale and rotation to the eye object.
  18. Assign a mirror mod to the body mesh - check do clipping
19 Duplicate the eye object and position it in the second eye socket
20 Apply scale and rotation to the second eye object.
  19. Clear the assigned particle system
  20. Apply the mirror mod on the mesh.

NOW you are ready to move on to things like hair, armatures materials and textures.

  1. Reassign your existing particle system
  2. Assign the length and density values to the existing vertex group.
  3. Edit and texture hair and objects.

The linked file has these changes and more. It is NOT a finished product by any means. If none of the instructions make sense to you, I highly advise scaling back what you are attempting to do until you are more familiar with Blender basics. Also at this stage I would recommend migrating to 2.5 - 2.49 is no longer under development, and for simple projects of this nature all the features needed do work fairly well in 2.5 and are easier to come to grips with.
