Halo through Transparency map

I am working on some volumetric lighting in a project and I have a two part question:

Is there a way to get the halo to represent the color of the light if I use an image or movie as a texture for the spot lamp?

( I can get the spot to project an image so it looks like a movie projector on a plane, but the halo is white regardless of the color of the image being ‘projected’)


I am using a spot lamp with a halo to illuminate a n object (this one happens to be partially transparent through an alpha map texture) but the halo completely disregards the shadow effect of the plane it illuminates first.
