Hand reaching to pocket - physics simulation (?)

Hello guys!

I want to ask for the advice about building good-looking simulation of hand reaching into the pocket. It’s part of bigger animation and my current goal is to make hand reach for the object, grab it while craeting realistic deformation of the material from the inside.

I already figured out I need to parent the object inside when it’s getting “picked”. However I don’t want to animation frame by frame deformation of the pocket. What would be the best approach here?

Thanks in advance.

Cloth simulation, pin the non-deforming parts. Scale everything up by 10, make the hand a collider, set collider shape to mesh. Animate the hand. Pray fervently and intensely to your preferred god or deity, as it’s unlikely this will work well. Apply the cloth sim as a shapekey. Remove the collider from the hand. Scale everything back down. Keyframe the shapekey influence as needed.

Animate it frame by frame. Use a lattice or shape keys to do it quicker.

Yes, if you want this to look good, use a lattice. If you want it to be “fast”, use cloth sim
