Happy Blender-New-Year

I wish you all the best for the coming year

You too man, have a good one

Now that it’s New Years, does anyone have any special NY resolutions they’d like to share?

This year, I want to try to be more productive. Create some characters in Blender. Rig them. Animate them. Anything I can do to improve my Blender skills.

I defiantly want to be more productive in blender this year…wanna, need to get better xD

I might actually give up on blender this year. I’ve been casually learning it for 7+ years and still nowhere near as good as people that have put in half that amount of time. I honestly don’t think i can put in the dedication and hard work to get better, i have no drive to push on.

I initially started learning it to try and impress people, these days it’s just a casual hobby.

No offense intended, but that’s a very negative mindset to believe in. No matter how good you are, there will always be someone who you can look up to that can do it better, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying. It shouldn’t matter what other people are capable of, you should only focus on what you can do. Focusing on other people does little to improve your own skill. Instead of worrying about other people being better, try to analyze them. See what they did right and what they did differently. Learn from them, and maybe you might be able to surpass them.

Also, you say you aren’t motivated to get better in Blender, but you’ve been around for seven years. I’d be even more impressed if you were self taught, even with the use of an occasional YouTube tutorial (which I assume is common amongst Blender users seeing as professional 3D modeling courses are usually too expensive for people who model as a casual hobby). I can’t even imagine how hard it is to focus on something for that long. You know what I did last weekend? I tried to commit myself to binge watch a season of tv, but I fell asleep halfway on the second episode. Pathetic. I lasted a measly hour on my goal compared to your seven years of dedication, and I’m jealous that you stuck around this long. It would be sad if you let all that experience go down the drain, but I guess that’s your choice to make. I’m just reminding you how far you’ve gotten if you leave now.

I wish you Happy New Year to Aryoksini,Unreal Slackers,3D Realms,Epic Games,Richard Marklew,DZak,RockyMadio,Interceptor Entertainment…and etc.

None taken. You know, i think you just gave me the motivation to give it another go.

It’s not so much about worrying about people being better than me, it’s more about spending so much time doing something and not getting anywhere. I keep asking myself things like “what am i going to do with my model when it’s done?”, “why am i even learning this?”, “isn’t there something more productive i should be spending my time on?” . I’m fairly impatient so it’s hard to finish tutorials, it’s especially annoying when the author makes mistakes or changes his mind mid course on a paid for tutorial.

Anyway, sorry for the rant but i just needed to vent. Hopefully this year goes better and opens up a lot of opportunities for everyone.

If you’re doing it for yourself, then perhaps the best question to lead with is, “Am I enjoying myself?”

It’s subjective.

In this year I swear no more 3D modelling abominations of my productions I was modelling so awful like Vinesauce ZBRUSH attempts.I swear to listen to you and follow the rules here.I still have some much to learn.
