Hardly a finished product...

A short clip a little more than a minute long, movie style.
The long range objective is to produce this as part of
an interactive “game” (if you can call it that),
One glitch in particular that I noticed was the timing
of the beacon as the moon happened across it’s path.
(Shouldn’t illuminate a moon with a lighthouse beacon)
I call it 7 Portals.
The lighthouse, terrain, comet (a poor one),
moon and scene animation are all completely done
in Blender 2.49b.

Relaxing

As for the moon. It appears that you have experience with blender, so I feel you may have already tried this. But I would imagine if you move the moon to its own layer, and make the all the lights layer appropriate, I think it would stop any unwanted light from hitting the moon.
