Hardware (and software) requirements for 2.8

Hi,
I read about the minimum reqs for 2.8 to be OpenGL 3.whatever-it-was, my question is, if my card does NOT support that, is it possible to use software OpenGL, and use 2.8? (I’m on a Linux system btw). I assume I’ll need the latest MESA then…?

And, secondarily, I’d like to know - if I have a pretty old-ish PC, can I put in the latest greatest Nvidia 2080 or whatever, and get mileage out of Blender without upgrading the CPU or the motherboard??? Will it work the same as it would on a new PC?? (My CPU is a 2.8 Dual Core).

Thanks.

for linux use Manjaro, Latest Mesa can now work with open-subdiv if the graphic card support opengl 4.x

I’ve no idea what you just said. My card IS an old one, it only supports OpenGL 2.something, I think. Can I use Blender 2.8 with software OpenGL, ie. MESA, or not??

I meant, Manjaro Linux for latest software and hardware support, I have AMD R9-390 with dual core intel (e6750) and it works fine, my old Motherboard has pci-express so no problem I think as long as it is pci-express (I think). but better to research more.
