Has anyone tried Crowd Simulation in Blender?

Hi guys,

I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on crowd simulation in Blender. I’m a huge admirer of the CG work used in battle scenes in the Lord of the Rings (which used a crowd sim called MASSIVE, which costs £5000) and the large hordes of running zombies in World War Z (which used Miarmy, a Maya Plugin).

Is there a way to create large amounts of agents in Blender and set up parameters under which they will act? Although an experienced blender user, I am not adept at programming, logic or AI and could do with help.

I don’t have a particular project in mind, but some kind of large scale battle sequence would be cool. Like two armies charging into eachother.
