Has anyone tried using Irrlicht?

Hey all,

I’m new to Game Development, but not new to Blender!!

I was just wondering if anyone has used the Irrlicht game engine with Blender 3D? and how the project came out.

I downloaded the engine and am configuring right now to work with Dev-C++

It has a Blender export script, so I think I’ll try it when I’m finished here!!

Yes i have tried. To export models from Blender you need to convert models to Quake 2 format if i remeber well… It is very simple for geometry but i have some troubles diplaying textures. I guess that making animations in this kind of interface will be a pain.

BTW Irrlich files are very explained, the source code for the example files has a lot of comments… good.

but you can export to direct x format too, which could support the textures well.

If not, then I guess making the animations might be painful then!!

lol!!

"but you can export to direct x format too, which could support the textures well. "

Yes. But this is not an elegant solution if you are looking for something crossplataform and opensource. And no i don’t want to start a flamewar against Windows.

Quake 2 format is able to show textures well inside Irlicht it is just me, i don’t have programing skills to correct them easily which means that i don’t have any programing skils at all. (Need to study a lot more).

Btw our great problem is animation.

Have you tried Cristalblend project? Maybe it is closer to integrate Low level programing and Blender’s interface…

thanks a lot

I thought crystal blend wasn;t ready yet?
